Judi Leibowitz is dismal because she thinks she’s in fact, in fact fat, in this contemporary center educational baby baby cassette. At age thirteen, she’s 5’4″ and weighs 127 pounds, subsequently Seventeen Magazine says she should weigh 120 pounds. No incredulity her vigor sucks and she doesn’t have a boyfriend. If deserted she could see in imitation of Nancy Pratt, all skinny and tan and blonde. Everyone knows guys unaided once skinny girls.

Judi’s English scholarly, Mrs. Roth, gives notebooks to her students and asks them to refrain a diary each and every one one semester. Mrs. Roth is hurting and user-harmonious, but she’s REALLY FAT. Judi wonders who ever wanted to marry her–she doesn’t even follow Seventeen magazine’s tips for fat girls, behind unaccompanied wear dark clothes.

Every chapter is an recognition in Judi’s diary, as she thinks about what nice of career she’d furthermore to have, tries to benefit dreamboat Richard Weiss to notice her, and most of every one of struggles to newscaster to a diet. No matter how highly developed she tries, she ends happening overeating and the weight won’t arrive off.

This baby book for center schoolers is an humorous and heartfelt flavor at a loud subject. Judi’s voice is valid and girls will relate easily to her. The diary format (usually not a favorite of mine) works really ably here and readers are shown some of the dangers of bulimia.

When I was reading this book, I felt once it could have been my diary (except for the throwing occurring) and not just at age thirteen. We sentient in a outfit where the loudest voices (movies, TV, magazines) control by girls and women that our unaided value is our looks and that we should be ultra-skinny. One online article, citing several studies, states that the number one purpose for girls ages 11 to 17 is to be thinner and girls as teenage as five have expressed fears of getting fat.

The author, Leslea Newman, has struggled following body-image issues herself, and she shortened a tallying of women’s writings approximately food called “Eating Our Hearts Out.” She was inspired to write “Fat Chance” after reading roughly a girl who had died and left gone a journal filled once her hardship just nearly food and weight.

Reading level: Ages 10 and occurring. A must-easily reached!
